School Store

Contact: Jenni Johnson

The school store, it is an opportunity for the third-fifth graders to shop for novelty school supplies (pencils, erasers, sharpeners, highlighters, etc…) during morning recess. Some of the second-grade teachers will allow their students to shop as well, but it is at the teacher’s discretion. Mrs. Cupp, third-grade teacher, orders the school supplies and coordinates school store.  Most items range in price from .10 to $2.00.

Parent volunteers arrive at 9:45 to set up and organize merchandise. Children usually start coming in around 10:00 a.m and are allowed to shop until the end of morning recess.  The job of the parent volunteer is to assist the children with their purchases/math. Often the younger children don’t know how much money they have to spend and some children need a reminder to complete their shopping. The fifth grade has six volunteers (two from each class) that come to help as well. Their job is to tally the purchases for the kids, that are shopping. Parent volunteers handle the money (and often double check the math).

Our first school store will begin TBD; school store usually happens twice a month, on a Thursday. We usually start at 9:45 and clean up around 10:20.  Mrs. Cupp has selected October 12th and October 26th for the school store dates; Mrs. Cupp reviews the school calendar and emails the dates for the following month. I will send out an email once a month to see who is available. I will email at the end of October with November’s dates.  Often we need last minute volunteers (kids get sick, things come up, etc..), so if you would like to also be a substitute, please let me know. If you prefer text communication, please send me your cell phone number. Three or four parent volunteers are usually sufficient, but the more the merrier. If you are no longer able to volunteer, please let me know, and I will remove your name from our volunteer list. If you are not able to volunteer this month, but would like to be included on future dates, also let me know.

If you are free either of these dates and would like to volunteer, could you please reply with your availability? If you are available both or either dates, please let know. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jenni Johnson
